Ratnadurg Fort Ratnagiri-- Timing ,Tour Experience & More
This was my first experience of a tour in the Konkan region, out of which I will give you information about one very historical place in this blog, whose name is Ratnadurg Fort. Ratnadurg Fort is located in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra, which is situated on the banks of the Arabian Sea at a distance of 2 km from the center point of Ratnagiri City and people recognize this place by the name of Bhagwati Fort and Ratnagiri City name is formed from this fort name.
Ratnadurg Fort History
The history of building Ratnadurg Fort is linked to the Bahamani period and in 1670, Maratha king Shivji captured this fort by defeating King Adil Shah of Bijapur and after that Shivaji Maharaj built a protecting tower near the South and Old Court House of the fort,and these two places are commanding points of the fort.
Friends, after some years Kanhoji Angre who was a maratha admiral improved the Citadel defense of this fort in the year 1750-1755. The British captured this fort in the year 1818 and repaired the temple of Bhagwati Maa at this place which was there during the time of Maharaja Shivji and built a very good temple, after which this fort came to be known as Bhagwati Fort.

The architecture of Bhagwati Fort will appear horseshoe-shaped if you see it from above in drone view.The structure of Bhagwati Fort is made of plato stone and you will get to see a very nice Bhagwati Maa ancient temple inside this fort.

- The entrance of Ratnadurg Fort is very nice where you will feel like doing photography and while going inside do not forget to have darshan of Maa Bhagwati.
- Friends, when I started roaming further into the fort, you would not believe how amazing the panoramic view here is, from where you can see the view of the Arabian Sea and the Sahyadri hills, I felt pleased to come to this place.
- Lighthouse also a good place to visit near the fort I missed it but you must visit this place, and I will cover it next time.

Best Time to Visit Ratnadurg Fort
Ratnadurg fort is the place where you can visit any time in the year but winter season November to February is the best time to visit because at this time weather is so pleasant and cool, so you can enjoy it.
How to reach Ratnadurg Fort Ratnagiri?
- Best way to reach this fort is by auto rickshaw from Ratnagiri Railway Station or Bus stop. But I suggest you first reach Ratnagiri Railway Station if you come to other parts of India because this station has good connectivity from every part of India , then book a tour package from a good tour operator like Balkrishna Tours and Travels,so they can easily tour you everywhere.
